NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- One of the two planes used as Air Force One, the plane used to transport the president of the United States, was spotted at Joint Base Charleston Monday.
The Air Force has confirmed that the Boeing 747 is in town to undergo testing after going through a maintenance cycle.
"The particular VC-25 seen at the base here recently completed a year-long heavy maintenance cycle and is currently undergoing an operational testing regimen prior to being certified for return to Presidential service," said First Lt. Susan M Carlson with Joint Base Charleston. "This testing program includes the requirement to conduct multiple takeoffs, approaches and landings under a variety of conditions."
President Obama was not on the plane which had no passengers aboard.
While the plane is known as "Air Force One", it's only called that when the president is on board.
Carlson said she did not have the schedule for when the aircraft is taking off or landing, but that the plane will be here for a couple of days.
