Funeral services planned for man suspected in Watson disappearance

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- Funeral services for the man investigators believe was involved in the disappearance of Dara Lee Watson will be held on Thursday.

According to Dial-Murray Funeral Home in Moncks Corner, a service will be held for Hedrick  at 7 p.m. on Thursday for 34-year-old David Hedrick.

Officials with the Charleston County Coroner's Office say Hedrick died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was found at his home just before 1 p.m. on Friday. Investigators with the Mount Pleasant Police department say he was spotted with a shovel in the area where Dara Watson's burnt SUV was discovered in the Francis Marion National Forest.

According to the obituary on the funeral home's website, Hedrick was born on April 6, 1977 in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a graduate of Lord Berkeley Academy and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Charleston. He was a Clemson fan and a member of the Daniel Island Rotary Club.

His family plans to receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 p.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the funeral home shares, the family requests memorials be made to the Omar Shriner's Children's Fund, 176 Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or to the Doc Williams SPCA, 502 Cypress Gardens Rd., Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
