CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Good news for music lovers living in Dorchester County. The Dorchester County Library launched a free music download service.

Library card holders can download up to three free MP3s from home every week with the barcode and pin number on their card. Once users download the music, it's theirs to keep.

Assistant Manager Chris Johnston of the Summerville branch says the system is very straight forward and user-friendly.

Johnston said the library launched the service about two weeks ago.

"We're kind of in the promotional phase of letting everyone know about it and trying to spread the word to the community to draw interest and attract new users to the library," Johnston said.

The Library is using Freegal, a music service similar to iTunes. The downloadable music service provides access to the catalog of artists in Sony Music Entertainment.

At this point users can only download music from home, but the library is working on making downloads available from the actual library locations.
