Dr. Brown (WCIV)LEXINGTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- After 18 years, three state titles and 175 victories at Berkeley High School, Dr. Jerry Brown left in 2011 to take a job as the athletic director at Fairfield Central.
He now has been named as the head football coach for Batesburg-Leesville High School. Brown told Sports 4 he was torn after a season not on the football field. He says he can't stay away from coaching.
In 27 years, Brown has compiled 237 wins and 106 losses. He has been a part of four state championship teams at two different schools. Twice he coached teams ranked nationally in the top 15 (1989 and 1994).
Brown said he took the job at Fairfield Central to get back in the Columbia area near his family and hometown of Winnsboro. According to a press release from Lexington County School District 3, Brown decided to put in for the Batesburg-Leesville job because he wanted to be a part of the "great football tradition" at the school.
Dr. Brown began his coaching career in 1970 as an assistant football coach at Spring Valley High School.
