Students visit CofC to see if they want to be Cougars

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Thousands of accepted students and their families flocked to the College of Charleston Friday with a life changing decision hanging in the balance.

The possible future Cougars will be in town this weekend to get a preview of where they could be spending the next four years.

They come from near and far, eager to begin the next chapter of life. But, some are still on the fence about where  they will spend those college years.

"Most have not made up their minds yet so they'll use this as a unique opportunity to get on campus, see what its all about, meet faculty and students and decide if this is the place they want to attend," said Director of Freshman Admissions Jimmie Foster,Jr.

College of Charleston sophomore Mike Micheli remembers what this weekend was like for him.

"You can visit classes, you can visit different clubs and organizations, Greek life and just kinda get a feel, you know, what it would be like to go here," said Micheli. "You get to see some of the things you probably wouldn't get to see, you know, on a typical tour so that's kind of a unique experience."

The numbers prove this weekend showcase works. Seventy-five percent of students attending over the last three years have ended up at CofC and the diversity is even more impressive.

Students are coming from all over the country: UK, Asia, almost 30 of the 50 states and they're going to fill the hotels and restaurants all over downtown Charleston giving the local economy a big boost.

And when it's all over, leaders at the college want prospective students thinking one thing:
"I am Cougar Nation. That's what we want students to say when were done with this weekend," said Foster.

The schedule is flexible on Friday. Families will have time to explore the Holy City. There's a set
schedule for Saturday starting at 10 a.m. inside TD Arena.
