MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's 40,000 people packed into four lanes of what is normally a heavily-traveled road. It's one of the largest 10k runs in the country, and along with the runners come spectators.
But where and how do you watch?
Being a professional "runner watcher," I've viewed the bridge run from all angles and areas over several years. I've compiled a list of my top five places to watch the run if participating isn't for you.
1. Intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Houston Northcutt
Parking is easy to get to along with a few coffee shops. Really, it's one of the first long stretches and the world's fastest guys are in their pace. Once you first spot the flood of runners headed your way, they keep coming for about 40 minutes.
2. At the base of the bridge near Patriots Point
Yes, right there at the gas station. The runners are starting to make their move and of course, more coffee and snacks at the gas station.
3. King Street in front of Juanita Greenberg's Nacho Royale
Nothing like having a drink and watching those runners. The runners make a home stretch sprint as they turn onto Meeting Street.
4. Meeting Street
For a few hundred yards you get to see some of the best runners in the world turn up the intensity before crossing the finish line.
5 Marion Square
Yep, one of the best views isn't even on the 6.2 km course. In Marion Square you'll find a variety of people from all over the world. If you like to people watch, this place is better than being at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport during the offloading of a 747 flight from Europe. You'll see all kinds of people, from all kinds of places, speaking all kinds of languages.
