CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- There could be a wet start to the Cooper River Bridge Run.
Showers are possible in the area for most of Saturday. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s.
But, the weather could be much worse. In 1987, runners lined the starting line with a temperature only a few degrees above freezing. The first year the race was held, the temperature was 82 degrees. Several runners couldn't finish because of heat and humidity.
The worst weather ever for the bridge run? That was in 2005. Heavy rain and thunderstorms pounded the area for the first 20 minutes of the race. It was one of the slowest races in the run's history, with a winning time of 29:30.
Only a little more than 70 percent of runners actually finished that race.
