RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet has released the cause of death in the case of a two-month old whose leg was bitten off by the family dog.
The cause of death was listed as "exsanguination, due to transection of blood vessels, due to
animal eating, due to parental neglect."
The coroner has listed the manner of death as homicide.
Nisbet says a dog bit the two month old, Aiden McGrew, several times and dismembered him while the child was at home on Sandpit Drive in Ridgeville on Friday.
Authorities say they believe the father was asleep in his room with one of his children, age 3, while Aiden slept in a swing chair in his room. The mother was at a doctor's appointment with their oldest child.
Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight would not divulge whether or not they are considering any charges in this case, simply saying "the case is under investigation."
Knight also wouldn't comment on the fate of the dog, now being housed with the Sheriff's Office canines outside at the complex. The sheriff's office is working with DHEC to determine whether or not the dog will be put down.
