NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)--The Boeing company works with more than 80 businesses in South Carolina to create jobs and stimulate the economy.
Mankiewics Coatings, located just off Clements Ferry Road, is one of them. The company will supply Boeing with a special paint that's fire, smoke and toxic resistant. It will be used in the interior of the 787 Dreamliner.
"We're talking about overhead bins. We're talking about food trays. We're talking about side panels. We're talking about passenger service units. All of those areas are painted and all of those areas have special requirements for paints," said Peter Dietz, the managing director for Mankiewicz Coating.
Dietz says it was the arrival of Boeing in North Charleston that was one of the big reasons his company moved to the area.
"You have to be there where the customer is," said Dietz. "Every supplier, whether it's the screw, the paint, or whatever is a part of the success of Boeing and that makes us very proud."
Boeing has reportedly spent more than $95 million dollars through suppliers and vendors in South Carolina alone.
