DORCHESTER, S.C. (WCIV) -- Quintin McGrew, the father of the 2-month-old baby who was fatally mauled by a dog, turned himself in to authorities Wednesday.
McGrew is being charged with unlawful neglect of a child. The family is being represented by attorney Andy Savage.
The warrant reads: "The defendant placed a two-month-old infant at unreasonable risk by placing the infant in the living room by himself while the defendant slept in the bedroom. The infant was left in the separate room with a dog that was new to the residence for over an hour."
McGrew was released from jail on a $50,000 PR bond Wednesday afternoon. His wife was present in court and said she supports her husband. Law enforcement officials say they do not believe he is a flight risk.
The dog, Savage says, is dead.
The incident happened Friday, April 20, at a home on Sandpit Drive in Ridgeville.
Dorchester County officials say Chantel McGrew came home to find that her 2-month-old son Aiden had been dismembered by a dog the family had been watching for a friend.
Aiden later died after being transported to Summerville Medical Center.
The coroner's office listed parental neglect among the factors in Aiden's death.
Meanwhile, a fund has been set up to help with funeral expenses. The account is named "Aiden McGrew Benefit Fund" and donations can be made at any First Federal Credit Union branch.
