CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Charleston's first Go Red for Women Luncheon, held April 25, raised a whopping $95,000.
Heartfelt stories of women who suffered heart attacks and strokes garnered donations of $8,000 from the 140 participants at the luncheon.
Keynote speaker Julia Reed spoke about a woman's need to balance, making health and wellness a priority and experiencing true happiness in life.
"Heart disease and stroke claim more women's lives each year than the next five causes of death combined, and nearly twice as many as all forms of cancer," said luncheon chair Rebecca Darwin. "Through the generosity of Charleston sponsors, volunteers and individuals, we raised an amazing figure that WILL make a difference for women and their hearts."
Go Red For Women is sponsored in Charleston by MUSC Health.
