Sheriff's office: 2nd day of McCaffrey scaled back

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- About a dozen searchers. That's down from about 150 on Thursday.

Major James Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said they were back on the scene off Highway 61 at around 8 a.m. Friday. Brady said it's the same area where crews searched Thursday -- a search that they say unfortunately ended with no new leads in the case of Marjorie Gayle McCaffrey.

Brady said search Friday only lasted a few hours, and that no additional evidence was obtained.

Gayle McCaffrey was reported missing in March by her husband Robert McCaffrey. Earlier this week, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office named Robert McCaffrey as a suspect after upgrading the missing woman's case to a homicide investigation.

Officials with the sheriff's office say they were led to search the area off Highway 61 by pings of Gayle McCaffrey's cellular phone.

Brady said though nothing was found in the searches on Thursday and Friday, the investigation will continue and additional searches may be conducted.
