Tom Tom the goat has SC police seeking animal ban

Posted: Updated:

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) -- The police chief in Bluffton says they don't teach goat wrangling at the police academy.

But Chief David McAllister says his officers have had to learn because a goat named Tom Tom keeps slipping away from its pen.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports McAlister wants town council to ban barnyard animals except where zoning expressly allows them.

He says in the past year, Tom Tom has escaped as many as 15 times. Earlier this year police got a call after Tom Tom got tangled in a tree and was found dangling upside down from his leash.

Anne Cooke says she received the goat as a gift. She says he's not a nuisance, that she has permission to keep him and she isn't giving him up.
