MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) — The mother of a Berkeley County man gunned down a year ago spoke openly about the case for the first time.

Friday marked the one year anniversary since her 23-year-old son Chad, was killed.  To commemorate the anniversary of her son's untimely death and to re-focus attention on the case, Audrey Williams organized a family cookout in Moncks Corner.

"We know that there are people out there that know exactly what happened but they're just not coming forward with the information that the detectives need to do their job," Williams said.

Last year, Berkeley County detectives responded to a home in St. Stephen where they reportedly found Chad Williams sweating profusely and shot multiple times.

"When the doctor told us he got shot 5 times, I couldn't believe somebody could be that cruel to shoot a human being like that," Williams said.

Chad left behind two small children, an 18-month-old and a three-month-old he never got a chance to meet.

"I don't know who hated my son just that much to want to take his life for no apparent reason," she said.

After the shooting, investigators released a drawing of a suspect. Investigators said they wanted to question the victim's cousin, Dean Lampkin Jr., for the murder. Neither have gotten investigators far in the case.

"He never did anybody any harm," Williams said about her son. "He wasn't the perfect child, but was a child you could always depend."

Williams said Chad is the second son she has lost to violence over the years.  But, this case is particularly hard she says because a killer continues to walk the streets.

"Even if they weren't there or even if they were there, they need to come forward."

If you have any information on the case, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 843-554-1111.
