SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The wife of William Brown, a teacher accused of inappropriately touching a 14-year-old student, is standing by her man.
Authorities say Brown was teaching at Dubose Middle School in Summerville when the teenager says it happened.
He was arrested Friday and then got out of jail on Saturday after posting bond. Monday his wife spoke about all the support they have received.
"We are/have been pretty much engulfed with support from former students, current students, former parents, current parents, friends, people within the community," said Kelly Sigler, wife of William Brown. "I'm amazed at the amount of support we have, and the reason is that they know that the truth will come out. The truth will prevail, and that all of this is just ridiculous."
Kelly Sigler has known her husband for 17 years. They have married for over 11 years.
"He loves teaching. He is a wonderful teacher, amazing teacher, father, husband, friend," said Sigler. "He is a mentor to so many kids and has been over the past 19 years."
One of the students that he mentored while teaching in Florida was Kimberly Laws.
"There is always two sides to the story and again Mr. Brown is a wonderful person, a wonderful teacher and everyone down here in Royal Palm support him 100 percent," Laws said.
A different story was heard in bond court on Saturday, where the victim's mom spoke out against the alleged actions of the teacher.
"He was her school teacher at Dubose middle school, her homeroom teacher, and like I said, she thought the world of him. He betrayed her trust," the teen's mom said.
Brown has been charged with second degree assault and battery and criminal solicitation of a minor. His next court date is in July.
A Dorchester District 2 spokesperson says Brown has been recommended for termination. He has been banned from all school and district property.
