KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Firefighters with the St. John's Fire District rushed to a home on Ocean Oaks Drive shortly after 4a.m. Thursday after smoke and flames were reportedly pouring out of a home.

St. Johns Fire District Public Information Officer James T .Ghi told ABC News 4 Fire crews began battling the structure fire around 4:15a.m.

Early reports indicate the home, worth 2.4 million dollars, may have been struck by lightning. Officials say residents were impacted, however there are no reports of injuries.

According to Capt. Ghi, the main living area was completely destroyed and guest house was badly damaged.

No one was home at the time of the fire but neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.

Our own meteorologist, Dave Williams, used our Pinpoint Doppler radar to help the SJFD track lightning strikes.

He said there was a lightning strike on that part of the island right around 3:30 a.m.

There were also at least 25 more strikes nearby between 3 and 3:30 a.m.
