NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The Charleston County School District is launching a 5-year program to increase student achievement.

Details of what's being called Vision 2016 are scheduled to be announced at a Thursday event in North Charleston.

District superintendent Nancy McGinley will outline the plan. As many as 350 parents, teachers, students, businesspeople and elected officials are expected to attend.

The district says the announcement is the result of a yearlong effort to set new goals and hold everyone responsible for the success of students.
