MOUNT PLEASANT (WCIV) – It's budget time for the U.S.S. Yorktown.
Today, ABC News 4 spoke with the Executive Director of Patriots Point, Mac Burdette, who says that this year's budget will bring in $9.5 million through June 30th, with a savings of about $435,000.
This comes as good news for the attraction which has struggled publicly in the down economy in the past.
"We want everyone in South Carolina to believe in Patriots Point and what we are trying to do here," said Executive Director of Patriots Point, Mac Burdette. "We are going to be successful; we have some major challenges over the next couple years including maintenance of ships and all that sort of things."
"But we have a plan and we're going to eat the elephant one bite at a time and we're making progress eating," he said.
Burdette says the Yorktown has exciting events planned in the near future to increase tourism, including a new 4th of July celebration.
The flight deck will be open for the first time to the public for viewing fireworks this year.
