Academic Magnet wins state soccer title

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- One is better than none.

The Academic Magnet girls' soccer team lost Friday's Class AA state championship game to Christ Church. Saturday was a different story for the boys' team, which shut out Indian Land 5-0 for the team's first state title.

The Raptors got their first score of the match in the ninth minute.  It came on a cross that set up a perfect header by Davis Michaelson. They scored again in the 34th minute on a breakaway by Matt Houle in which the ball was buried in the back of the net.

The Raptors went into halftime leading 2-0.

It was pedal to the metal in the second half as Jonathan Glenn scored two goals. Another score gave the Raptors the 5-0 final score and their first state title. It was also the first state title for head coach Jason Hamil.
