Charleston County Parks officials have a full staff of lifeguards at each of their beach parks to help swimmers stay safe.
"They just need to be aware and make sure to watch your children, number one," said county park manager Cynthia Wilson. "Make sure to swim in a lifeguard area and check with those guys and ask the question. Ask them what those conditions are like that day."
Sunday also marked the start of National Beach Safety Week. In effort to raise awareness about beach safety, lifeguards will be conducting swim rescue scenarios all week long. Demonstrations will be held on the Isle of Palms, Kiawah and Folly Beach.
