Citadel holds seminar linking economy to democratic well-being

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- A series of seminars are being held at the Citadel that explores the idea that individual freedoms are a key component in the survival of the republic.

Citadel business professors Robert Freer and Bill Woolsey are hosting the "Free to Choose" seminar based on a PBS series by Milton Friedman 32 years ago.

"The power of a free and creative people unshackled from a demanding state is the prescription for our salvation," said Freer. "There is nothing that the federal government sees that it doesn't promise to provide, and there is no price too high for it to demand from us, including our liberty."

The seminars, which are free and open to the public, began May 10 and will continue every Thursday until July 12. The seminars will be held in Bond Hall, room 165 on the Citadel campus.
