SUMMERVILLE (WCIV) -- School officials with Dorchester District Two announced Kenneth (Kenny) Wayne Farrell as the incoming principal at Summerville High School Wednesday.

Farrell has worked in DD2 since 1999 at several different schools, and he is currently the principal of DuBose Middle School.

Farrell also served as Assistant Principal at Summerville High School from 1999-2003.

He will replace Buddy Chapel, who is leaving to take a job in Pennsylvania.

During his tenure at DuBose Middle he focused on student achievement, resulting in increased test scores each year. This year the school earned a Palmetto Gold Award for student academic performance and the Palmetto Silver Award for Closing the Achievement Gap from the State Department of Education and the Education Oversight Committee.

Farrell completed his undergraduate degree at University of South Carolina and earned a Masters of Arts in Education from The Citadel. He also received Certification in Administration from The Citadel in 1998.
