NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- In a press conference held Thursday, North Charleston police gave updates on the investigation into the murder of Port City Liquors owner Matt Renken.

"Through our investigation to this point we've found some things out. We've gotten some answers. It's been a tedious process of inventory or personal items that Mr. Renken had," said Captain Scott Deckard of the North Charleston Police Department.

On April 22, Renken was found shot to death in the office of the store he owned on Dorchester Road.

Police say the scene was complex, which led to the delay of ruling his death a homicide. Now, they are looking for his killer.

"There's stuff that leads us to believe, or evidence that leads us to believe that people were traveling back and forth through the parking lot," Deckard said.

Investigators say the murder happened between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. There was video recovered by police but it was not good quality.

"What we've determined is that there's one particular item that is very identifiable that is missing. It is a Rolex watch. We have information that he had it in his possession just previous to him arriving at the store. And, we haven't been able to locate it through any of the people that we've interviewed."

Deckard says the watch is pertinent to the department's investigation.

"Other than to say that it's very valuable, it has particular markings that we'd be interested in. So, what we need to do is get the information out there in case someone has either bought a watch recently from one of the, you know, EBay, Craigs List, a pawn shop -- that may notice some particular engravings on it," Deckard said.

No money from the store was taken, and police say if there was money involved it was personal money that Renken may have been carrying.

Police say the door to the business was not locked at the time of the attack, so the killer could have been anyone.

Police would not confirm if Renken knew the person, because they have no evidence to point in either direction.

"There's evidence of a struggle taking place inside the store, and we need the community's help in trying to identify the attackers," he said.

Police say they have a list of possible suspects, some of which have been eliminated thus far. Police are looking for anyone who may have seen something from the parking lot.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
