Police: Bicyclist hit on Frontage Rd. was riding in the middle of the street

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police and EMS rushed to Frontage Road near the 600 block of Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant just before midnight late Thursday.

According to a traffic collision report provided by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, a bicyclist was struck by a car and then possibly run over.

The incident occurred in front of the East Cooper Plaza Shopping Center. Officers say the bicyclist was traveling south on Frontage Road and did not have proper lighting for the bike. Officials say the bicyclist was also riding middle of the road.

The accident reportedly happened as the vehicle struck the bike from rear. Investigators at the scene say the bicyclist was then possibly run over.

EMS was called to the scene and the 47-year-old bicyclist was transported to MUSC.

He was discharged from MUSC late on Friday morning.
