Accident involving disabled vehicle stops traffic for hours

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- An accident on the Don Holt Bridge brought traffic to a stand still for hours late Tuesday afternoon.

According to North Charleston police, the accident happened when a vehicle stopped with a flat tire, was struck by a tractor trailer.

Officers say no one was in the vehicle at the time.

The driver of the truck was hurt in the crash and was taken to the hospital. Officials say injuries to the driver were not life-threatening.

Police have cited the driver of the disabled vehicle for contributing to the accident.

Increased traffic could be seen on a number of area roadways, as drivers tried to avoid the gridlock on I-526 heading toward North Charleston.
