MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WCIV)-- At least one shark has bitten four people in the waters of Myrtle Beach.

According to WPDE, the attacks happened between 74th and 77th Avenue North. A lifeguard told reporters that the bites happened very quickly and back to back. The people were bitten on either their feet or calf or both.

WPDE says three victims were taken to the hospital by an ambulance and another went in a personal car. Police say the injuries aren't serious.

As a precaution, people were not allowed in the water for about an hour.

A witness told WPDE that one of the victims was in chest deep water with his girlfriend when it happened.

"There was about five large indentations on his calf," said John Gonas. "The blood was pouring down to his ankle and he had five set of teeth marks."

WPDE reports the attacks did not happen near a pier but there were people fishing from the shore in the area.

Myrtle Beach Police Beach Patrol says the number of animal bites that happen are low considering the number of people who visit the Grand Strand.
