CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – USC fans will now be able to get their Gamecock merchandise straight from the source. The university is opening up a new Welcome Center on King Street.

The University of South Carolina recently purchased the remaining three years of the lease for the retail space at 258 King Street.

"The University of South Carolina is going to be right here on King Street with a welcoming center and a small store for their higher wearables and jewelry," said Gregg Hoffman of the King Street Marketing Group.

The center will provide a link with prospective students thinking about attending USC.

"It's a place where students who are looking at colleges in their sophomore and junior years can come down here and get full view at what University of South Carolina has to offer in all undergraduate and graduate degrees," Hoffman said. "The goal is to be a community liaison for perspective students, for actual students, and for those alumni and friends of the university."

The space on King Street will also feature a small USC gift shop.  Fans can select from clothing, jewelry, their USC golf line and special coaches gear.

"It's another local business here, this is local business which is always a good impact on King Street," Hoffman said.

The school hopes to have the welcome center open by late August.
