COLLETON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Colleton County Sheriff's Office lieutenant is under federal indictment, according to the FBI.

Authorities arrested Fred Allen Inabinett Friday and charged him with obstruction of justice. Investigators say Inabinett lied in an interview with federal agents in connection with an ongoing grand jury proceeding.

The FBI released the following statement after the arrest:

"Public Corruption is the criminal priority of the FBI. The FBI investigates allegations of corruption involving elected officials, law enforcement officers, and government employees at the federal, state, and local levels. Any allegations of corruption should be directed to the local FBI office."

Inabinett is currently on a paid suspension with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff George A. Malone said his office will re-evaluate the situation and could made a different decision on Inabinett's status with the agency on Monday.

"We are going to revisit this whole thing on Monday," Malone said. "...I still don't have all the facts. I am still trying to gather facts and all before we move forward."
