CHARLESTON, S. C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston Riverdogs are playing host to this year's South Atlantic League All-Star Game. And when it comes to planning, they've hit one out of the park.

Fans have every reason to be proud of the Riverdogs. Not only are they tops in player development, upper management is not too shabby when it comes to landing a very important sports event.

"We were bidding against about four or five other teams in the league. The league did a vote and gave us the 2012 all-star game," says team GM, Dave Echols.

Echols went on to say that they wanted to put on a memorable event "not only for the players, but the fans and executives that are traveling to Charleston," he said.

And if you build it, they will come. The dollar impact of the all-star game is expected to be a home run not only for the City of Charleston but for the surrounding area as well.

"We're taking over a couple of hotels. We're having 13 other markets, not just their players but the executives, fans and their staff all coming into town. They're bringing travel dollars, circulating them around the Lowcountry with food and entertainment and excursions."

Tuesday at 11 a.m., Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and team part-owner/actor Bill Murray will be inducted in the S.A.L. Hall of Fame.

The awards and induction ceremony will be followed by a three-block parade to The Joe.

Fanfest will begin around 2:30 p.m. Players will be available for meet-and-greets and autograph signings.

Tickets are still available to Tuesday night's all-star game. You can purchase them at the ballpark box office or online at the Riverdogs website.
