CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man is now in custody, accused of a downtown shooting death earlier this month.

Police arrested Joshua Robinson, 29, this morning on the corner of Amherst and America Streets, according to police chief Greg Mullen.

On Thursday, around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to Hanover Street in reference to shots fired in the area and found the victim, Maliek Lamar Byers, 23. Byers had been shot and was found collapsed on the stairs leading up to an apartment. He died at the scene.

"That particular shooting we believe had a drug nexus," Chief Mullen said.

Robinson is expected to go before a bond court judge on Wednesday afternoon. He's currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County.
