BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WHTM) -
The jury in Jerry Sandusky's trial has found the former Penn State assistant football coach guilty on 45 of 48 counts of child sexual abuse.
The verdict was read at the Centre County courthouse shortly after 10 p.m.
Moments later, Sandusky was led from the courthouse in handcuffs and placed into a waiting sheriff's car for transport to the county prison.
His defense attorney, Joe Amendola asked for house arrest until Sandusky's sentencing hearing, but Judge John Cleland denied the request.
Sentencing is expected in 90 days. His defense attorneys said they are planning to appeal.
The verdict followed a buzz of activity at the courthouse that began around 8:30 p.m. after Amendola and prosecutor Joe McGettigan walked into the judge's chambers.
Attorney General Linda Kelly, whose office is handling the prosecution of the former Penn State assistant football coach, arrived the courthouse shortly before 8 p.m.
Sandusky and his wife arrived at the courthouse at 9:45 p.m. Dottie got out and walked around the car to Jerry and the two walked hand-in-hand, but Sandusky did not answer any questions asked by reporters.
