CSU honored for community service

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston Southern University is one of hundreds of schools being recognized for community service.

The Corporation for National and Community Service and the U.S. Department of Education honored the nation's leading colleges, universities, students, faculty members and staff for their commitment to bettering their communities through community service and service learning.

CSU was among those recognized, specifically for its work in what The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) describes as "work in engaging its students, faculty and staff in meaningful service that achieves measurable results in the community."

This is the second year CSU has received the award.

"We are dedicated to developing students who are not only committed to academic excellence but who are well-rounded, contributing members of society who set themselves apart through service, integrity and respect," said CSU President Jairy C. Hunter Jr. "Community service is an integral part of this development. Our vision at Charleston Southern is to be a Christian university nationally recognized for integrating faith in learning, leading and serving."
