WALLACE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Sgt. Devin Davis was injured in the suicide bombing attack in Khost City, Khost Province, Afghanistan on June 20, 2012. Three soldiers from the 133 Military Police Company in Timmonsville were killed.

Devin is a Military Policeman with the 133 Military Police Company out of Timmonsville, SC. The three other soldiers were his closest friends in the company. He was the most seriously injured soldier to survive the attack….and he his family says he is fighting for his life.

When the family was initially advised of the accident, they were told that Devin had shrapnel in the muscle of his left leg. They were so happy that his injuries were not more serious. Over the next several days, the news changed drastically. He sustained injuries and broken bones on the majority of his body and was burned from the blast.

Devin underwent multiple surgeries at Baghram Airfield Hospital where he remained until Sunday. Devin was transported to Germany on Monday and Christie, was able to talk with his nurse and another connection through a friend who visited with him. On Monday afternoon, she was able to hear his voice because he had removed his breathing tube himself! She spoke with him again Tuesday night for a few seconds.

He was transferred back to the United States today and landed at Andrews this afternoon. He was taken to Walter Reed Army Hospital where Christie was able to see him for a few moments. He's scheduled for many surgeries in the coming hours.

WCRE and The Link newspaper have established the "Devin Davis Benefit Account" to help pay travel expenses for Christie and Devin's parents so they can be with him during his recovery.
