CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Friends and family members of Marley Lion have worked to gather thousands of dollars in additional reward money in hopes of finding the teen's killer.

To date, more than $12,000  has been donated, that amount in addition to a $1,000 Crime Stoppers reward for information that may lead to an arrest.

"This random act of deadly violence could have befallen any of us or our children," said Lee Jamison, one of the fund organizers. "In whatever way possible, everyone should speak out so that Marley's killer will be found and prosecuted."

Lion was killed on June 16. Officials say he was in the back of his SUV when someone attempted to force their way into the vehicle. Lion was shot several times and later died at MUSC. He was a recent graduate of Academic Magnet with plans of attending Clemson University in the fall.

The Marley Lion Reward Fund, established by his parents and an informal group of AMHS parents and family friends, is an online fund set up through CresCom Bank. Donations can be made at any CresCom Bank or through: http://www.youcaring.com/fundraiser/marleylionrewardfund.
