CHARLESTON, S. C. (WCIV)-- Families looking to forego the professional displays of pyrotechnics can find bargains at the local fireworks stands heading into the July 4th holiday.

Damien Cote's family has been in the fireworks business for the past 18 years. While the economy has slowed some, there's still a demand for fireworks.

"It's slowing down slightly. Business is still good. The economy has had its effect on us but we'll still be here," he says.

Whether you just want to set off your traditional firecrackers or get into the big league do-it-yourself displays, there's something in every price range.

"We've everything from the basic sparklers and smoke bombs up to the big packages that range up to $500."

Cote says on average, each customer spends between $40-$50.

Also, customers will notice something different when they make a purchase this holiday. Each bag has safety regulations printed on them. Among them, 'observing local laws,' and 'having water handy.'

The most important of them all, 'adult supervision' is highly recommended.

You must be at least 16-years-old to purchase fireworks without an adult present.
