SC DMV using new system, TVs, website to cut wait

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles is using television screens, new software and greeters to cut wait times in its largest offices.

DMV executive director Kevin Shwedo says people can access the DMV website and check out wait times before they decide when to go or which office to visit.

For 42 of its 67 offices, the website reports how many people are in line, what they are waiting for, and how long the wait is.

Waits vary depending on whether you need to get a license, turn in tags or take a test. But officials hope the average time to wait now is about 10 minutes.
