CCSO deputy involved in 5-car accident on Folly Road

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A five car accident shut down at least one lane of Folly Road Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 5:00 p.m. in the area of Mariners Cay.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, five vehicles were involved including a Charleston County Sheriff's deputy. The road was reopened just before 7 p.m.

Preliminary information is that a deputy who was stopped in traffic leaving Folly Beach was rear-ended, causing the cruiser to then strike the vehicle in front of him and resulting a chain reaction accident.

Minor injuries were reported. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

    The organizers that sponsored the big Fourth of July party on Folly Beach could face some stiff penalties. According to police, they were not authorized to set up shop near 10th Street.
