MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- The call came for help and Brenda Frye couldn't tell her daughter no.

Frye's daughter, Georgina Walton Floyd, is an Air Force Medical Technician currently deployed in Bagram, Afghanistan. She called her mom several weeks ago to tell her about her desperate need for flip flops for the soldiers she cares for while they are recovering from battle wounds.

So Frye reached out to the community who stepped in from near and far to contribute to the cause she calls "Operation Flip Flops." More than 200 pairs of flip flops have already been delivered to the base in Bagram and Frye shipped another 400 pairs Monday morning.

Several other local businesses and organizations have committed help. VT Milicom in North Charleston collected 440 pairs for the organization.

Frye says she's gotten calls and emails from people across the nation wanting to do their part.

Despite the major outreach, Frye said she's not ready to slow down.

"The mission is not accomplished, because we've also got other hospitals in Afghanistan that have requested the flops as well," Frye said. "So, this is going to be an ongoing thing until they tell us to stop, and they aren't needed anymore."

If you would like to help you can contact Brenda Frye at 843-864-6423. You can also make a monetary donation to help cover shipping costs on PayPal.
