MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) – MUSC Healthcare specialists are now offered in Mount Pleasant under one roof. The 80,000 square foot facility began serving patients on Monday.
"I, too, can recall going back more than three years ago when the plans were on the drawing board and now to stand here today and realize that this is a reality," said Thomasena Stokes Marshall, mayor pro tem for the town of Mount Pleasant.
The building is LEED certified, which means it has an energy and environmentally efficient design.
"Behind me is a state of the art building but, a peace of mind for our patients is the most important thing that we intend to provide here," said Philip Costello, president of MUSC physicians practice group. "When they are here they will know that they are backed by the largest team of specialists in the Lowcountry."
Doctors will offer services like primary care, comprehensive breast care, imaging, urology, neurology/neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, and lab services.
"When patients come here, they will not only benefit from the doctors they are here to see but the collaborative environment the center provides bringing in other specialists to provide the best diagnosis," said Costello.
The center is located at 1600 Midtown Avenue, just off Hungryneck Boulevard at the junction of I-526.
There is free parking, a rooftop healing garden, medical concierge and community rooms for events. Black Bean Café, a locally owned health food restaurant will operate within the building.
Cardiology services are set to begin in November 2012.
