Update: Dara the dog recovering from surgery

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV)-- Dara, the dog rescued from a canal in Georgetown after being bound with duct tape and left to drown, is recovering from surgery Pet Helpers says.

"Dara is out of surgery!" The update reads. "She is now recovering and will stay at the vet's office over night to be carefully watched. During her surgery it was discovered she had blunt force trauma to her organs. It was also discovered she had several masses that are being sent off for biopsy. We should have the results within 24 hours. Updates will follow. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!"

The black lab was found flopping around in the water under the bridge on Chimney Brick Road. She had her front and back legs taped together as well as her muzzle taped shut.

Just a couple of days later, two more dogs were found bound in the same way, but those dogs, a yellow lab and a boykin spaniel, did not make it out of the water alive.

Multiple organizations including Pet Helpers, the Humane Society and HelpThisDog.com have started campaigns to raise reward money to find the person(s) responsible.

If you know anything about these cases of animal cruelty, you are asked to call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at 843-546-5102.
