Clemson scientists part of garden pest app team

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- Two researchers at Clemson University hope a new smartphone application will help home gardeners identify common garden pests and get information about when to do certain types of gardening maintenance.

Sarah White and J.C. Chong are part of the team that helped develop IPMLite. They say the high-tech gardening tool puts vital information like alerts about pest outbreaks and disease management at a gardener's fingertips.

IPMLite costs $9.99 and is available for iPhone and Android. It was developed using funding from the University of Tennessee.

The program was developed by the same team of southeastern scientists that put together the IPMPro app for professional landscapers and arborists.
