CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Anne Sinkler Whaley LeClercq has a long history of gardening as well as traveling the world to capture beautiful flowers and greenery. She is promoting her latest book published by USC Press, "A Grand Tour of Gardens: Traveling in Beauty through Western Europe and the United States."

"When I travel, I take a bathing suit, a tennis racket, a go-bag and my camera," LeClercq said on Lowcountry Live. "That's all I need."

The book showcases LeClercq's excursions through photographs and essays. Gardens in Italy and France, along with Miami's Vizcaya Gardens, are among her top choices. However, one within an 5-hour drive of the Lowcountry is her favorite.

"Then garden I love the most is right here within hours of you. It is Biltmore Estate," LeClercq said. "The most beautiful garden anywhere near us."

"A Grand Tour of Gardens" enables the garden adventurer to anticipate the world of color, design, and horticulture in each magnificent garden.

LeClercq is the daughter of the late Emily Whaley, famed for her downtown Charleston garden on Church Street. LeClercq explained that while pregnant with her, her mother was required to stay at home. LeClercq's father created a garden for Whaley to enjoy. LeClercq was then raised among seven acres of gardens in Pinopolis, SC.

LeClercq holds a master's degree in librarianship from Emory University and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee.
