SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A small earthquake was recorded by The U.S. Geological Survey in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The magnitude 2.8 quake hit just before 1 a.m. The epicenter was just to the west of the Walmart on Dorchester Road, south of the Colonial Village apartment complex and over five miles underground.

College of Charleston Associated Professor of Geology Dr. Erin Beutel stresses that the number of quakes experienced in the areavary year by year and that there is no reason to think the small rumbles are leading up to a larger event.
