CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Lowcountry restaurant is reaching out to help the Colorado community still recovering from a deadly movie theater shooting.
Twelve people were killed and 58 people were injured in a shooting inside a movie theater in Aurora earlier this month.
John Haire owns the local eatery Jim 'N Nick's that also has a restaurant in Aurora. He says staff members at the Aurora Jim ‘N Nick's location knew several of the shooting victims.
The restaurant will participate in a barbeque festival in Aurora this weekend to help raise money for the victims. Haire will also take letters of encouragement to the victims written by patrons of the South Carolina locations. Haire says so far they've had hundreds of people submit letters.
"It's been amazing, from the 3-year-old drawing a picture, to adults just writing very deep heartfelt messages of thoughts and prayers," Haire said. "It's been a wide range of people. It's been very well-received, and the amount of letters has been very plentiful."
