GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- A global spandex manufacturer has decided to close it's local manufacturing center.
In a press release issued Friday morning, Asahi Kasei Fibers announced operation at Asahi Kasei Spandex America in Goose Creek would cease in October of 2012.
According to the release, the company did everything it could to reduce cost, but it could not recover in the US market.
"Asahi Kasei Fibers concluded that further investment in its US spandex business could no longer be justified," the release stated.
The company reports it has a local workforce of 133.
