KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV)-- The PGA Championship tournament will have an enormous economic impact on the Lowcountry... an estimated $200,000 worth. One company didn't necessarily crave the extra business, but certainly got it.
Chalk one up for a small quaint Johns Island restaurant…Crave is stirring up big business.
"I expect a slow start and a hard finish. I feel like the crowd is coming Wednesday and Thursday," said Crave owner Lynn Mumau Tuesday.
The in-house menu is quite limited this week. However, the potential number of customers brought in by the PGA Championship, is unlimited.
"Its a very good month that usually every summer is our stale time because it's very hot. The tourists come, but the locals stay home because it's too hot.. It's a great week for us," said Mumau.
While Lynn handles business on Johns Island, her business partner is taking care of customers on the Ocean course.
But its not the public Mike is serving... Crave was hired by the PGA to be the official caterer to the caddies.
"We've been bragging about it for months… making banners and shirts ... it's an honor. I've been doing this for 25 years. It's just been an honor…really excited to do this," said Executive Chef Mike Petrillo.
Burgers and Dogs, not on the caddies' diet this week-- More like prime rib and meatloaf sliders.
"We wanted to feed the caddies better, so Brett the Director of PGA events here, was eating at the restaurant. I never met him. He came and asked me. He said he loved the food and wanted to feed the caddies better," Petrillo said.
A major business deal for 2 small business owners at Golf's final major of the year.
