CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina apparel company is donating $5,000 to the South Carolina Aquarium's Sea Turtle Rescue Program.
Representatives of Loggerhead Apparel, created by two South Carolinians last year, present the check on Thursday at the aquarium.
Loggerhead Apparel donates 10 percent of all sales to regional sea turtle conservation efforts. The company has donated more than $20,000 to groups in the Carolinas, Florida, Texas and California.
Each year, about 130 sea turtles are stranded on South Carolina beaches. About 10 percent of those turtles are alive and taken to the aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital. Since it opened in 2000, the aquarium has treated and released 92 sea turtles and currently is treating nine others.
