BOWENS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Part of a restaurant famed for it's seafood and oceanside view was damaged by fire early Monday morning.

Flames could be seen coming from a portion of Bowens Island Restaurant around 1:30 a.m.

Officials on scene released few details about the blaze. It appeared the main portion of the restaurant was spared, however the Associated Press reports an outbuilding was destroyed.

Firefighters spent hours dousing hot spots in the building the AP says was used for extra kitchen space for the restaurant when catering events.

The Bowens Island Restaurant was founded in 1946 by May and Jimmy Bowen, according to the Bowens Island Restaurant website. It is located on Bowens Island, which sits just miles from Folly Beach.

Restaurant owner Robert Barber told the AP Bowens Island will be open for business Tuesday.
