KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- It is one of those indelible moments of Lowcountry sports, something people will remember for a long time: the crowd gathering around Rory McIlroy on the 18th hole celebrating his dominant PGA Championship victory.

"You know, I was just on 18 taking the whole thing in," said McIlroy. "I didn't allow myself to think until the 18th. I said, all right, I still have a long way to go. I still have to keep in the present, keep hitting my shots. I allowed myself the luxury of walking up 18 knowing that I was going to win. I enjoyed the moment, let it all sink in."

A shoe in for the PGA most of the day, it was never a doubt. The confident swagger of Rory, right down to wearing a red shirt on Sunday. He had a vision, a plan and perfect execution.

"I went out this afternoon and I just tried to play solid golf and I set myself a target," he said. "I said look, if I get to 12 under par, nobody is going to catch me and I was able to go one better than that."

The Lowcountry crowds were roaring for Rory, knowing they were witnessing history.

"To sit up here and see this trophy and call myself a multiple major champion, I know I've talked about it in the past and not many people have done it," said McIlroy. "I'm privileged to join such an elite list of names."

A final shot at glory, finally done...on Kiawah..

"You can have a good season but to make a good season a great season, you need a major championship."

And for the first time in 17 majors, we've got a repeat champion.
