Those who live in quiet areas of Oyster Point worry about development (WCIV)MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - Mount Pleasant council members voted to pass the first readings of the annexation, zoning, and impact assessments for the new Oyster Point subdivision at Tuesday night's meeting.
Now that the vote has passed, the land off Six Mile Road will fall under the jurisdiction of Mount Pleasant.
Many residents oppose this zoning change. Developers want to build new neighborhoods there which could include 600 new homes.
Earlier this month nearly a dozen others spoke at a town committee meeting, many in
opposition to the plan or concerned about the traffic it may create.
According to the submitted plans to the town, a traffic study shows
4,680 weekday daily trips added to the roadways. The proposed plan would
include about 593 residential units on 198 acres including
single-family homes, town homes, and duplexes.
Council members are set to vote again in the meeting next month.
